Rute Geraldes

Rute Geraldes is a Civil Engineer (since 2004) and Doctor in Transportation Systems (since 2011). Both degrees (5 year Civil Engineering graduation – planning, transportation and management branch and PhD) are from Instituto Superior Técnico from Universidade de Lisboa. Her entire education, training and work experience is focused on a large variety of transportation subjects (transportation market and data analysis, planning, operating and financing public transport, traffic engineering, mobility, accessibility, design of transport infrastructure and road safety) applied from the different perspectives of several role players in transportation sector (consultants, transport operators and public administration/authorities). Currently (since 2017) she works full time as an external consultant in the Planning and Coordination Division of the Transport and Mobility Systems

Abstract

NAVEGANTE: THE NEW PUBLIC TRANSPORT TARIFF SYSTEM FOR THE LISBON METROPOLITAN AREA.

Aiming at the transition to sustainable mobility and attraction of new public transport (PT) passengers, the Lisbon Metropolitan Area set out a new tariff system, allowing a simplification of the monthly passes available and a significant reduction of their prices. This has induced a substantial increase on the demand of both passes and ridership.
