Marek Rannala

Marek Rannala has a background of road and traffic engineering since 2004, moving gradually into the topic of sustainable mobility. His experience includes being lecturer in Tallinn University of Technology in a field of urban mobility and infrastructure, managing infrastructure design projects, performing traffic modeling and traffic studies in international consulting companies. During past 10 years his focus has been on mobility studies and consulting transformation of cities into livable places. This experience has given him understanding what can be achieved with better mobility statistics and smart mobility solutions. Marek started to work with mobile phone data as a cooperation partner of Positium 12 years ago, from 2017 he is responsible for mobility statistics product development in Positium. For providing useful and smart statistics on mobility, it is crucial to understand the actual needs of cities and regions, transportation planners and decisionmakers. Therefore, networking mobility events like ECOMM are important part of Marek’s job.

TARTU SMART MOBILITY REVOLUTION – NEW REALITY WITH MOBILE BIG DATA

Tartu introduced two large scale changes in mobility in summer 2019 “ a totally redesigned bus line network and a new e-bike sharing system, interconnected. Both designed using mobile big data. The presentations are about very promising initial impacts of both projects.
